The Club and Organizational Fair moves Online

The Club and Organization Fair moved to a virtual format after it was announced that Mansfield would hold the majority of classes online for the fall 2020 semester.

The original plan was to hold the fair in person on Saturday, August 15, 2020, at South Hall Mall. Amy Delozier, Director of the Kelchner Fitness Center, sent out an email to all advisors and student representatives on July 27, 2020 inviting organizations to RSVP to the event. Tables were to be set up spread per social distancing guidelines, and no more than two people could be seated at one booth to help maintain social distancing. Plans drastically changed after August 3, 2020, when President Patterson announced that 75 percent of all classes would be held online, and the residential population would be reduced to 1/3 of total capacity.

Delozier sent out a follow-up email on August 4, 2020 that the Organization Fair would be moving online using Flipgrid, a website that allows users to upload videos to a “grid” that may be viewed by other people. Representatives had to log in with their Mansfield email and upload their video. Videos could be up to five minutes long, which provided plenty of time to tell potential members about meeting times, contact information, and why they should join.

The following organizations uploaded videos to Flipgrid: Esports Club, PRSSA, SGA, ACDA, Enactus, PCMEA, Signa Alpha Epsilon, Zeta Tau Alpha, MU Bass Fishing Team, Navigators, Chemistry Club, Rotaract Club, LEO Club, Phi Signa Pi, Honors Association, Alpha Sigma Alpha, MU Nursing Association, Alpha Sigma Tau, “The Flashlight,” and the Panhellenic Council.

Combined, the videos have over 2,100 views and 82.2 hours of engagement. Organizations like the Bass Fishing Team and the Panhellenic Council showed PowerPoints with informational text on the screen. Others, like Alpha Sigma Alpha and “The Flashlight,” showed the leader of the organization personally speaking about the club. Phi Sigma Pi even featured videos by four different members who all spoke about their experiences in the honors fraternity. But no matter how organizations decided to create their videos, all were helpful communicating information in a virtual format.

Any student interested in viewing the videos may go to https://flipgrid.com/ab4bfce4.
