The Faculty at MU has an Art Show

The Loomis Gallery’s latest exhibit, the Faculty Art Show, opened on August 31, 2020, and showcases the work of nine faculty members of Mansfield University. The Faculty Art Show is the first art show of the Fall 2020 semester and will run from August 31, 2020 until October 1, 2020.


The artists featured are Alan Bennett, Martha Campbell, Kenneth Cobb, Jimmy Guignard, Lilace Mellin Guignard, William Keeth, Michelle Lockwood, Marissa Scott and John Shanchuck; faculty members of Mansfield University’s Department of Art, Communication, English and World Languages. The exhibit includes a wide range of mediums from paintings, prints, photographs, ceramics, sculptures and writing.


Some of the works on display include “Fish Wall” (wood-fired and raku) created by Instructor of Art Alan Bennett,  “Torito de Pucará” (paper mache) by Associate Professor of Spanish William Keeth, and “Viking Boat” (Handmade paper, rice paper, cattails, milkweed pods, woven seat) by Associate Professor of Art Martha Campbell.


Ceramic work titled “COVID-19 Diary” by Instructor of English Marissa Scott and oil paintings by Assistant Professor of Studio Art Kenneth Cobb such as the painting “Home Cooking” and “The Bike Path” are also featured in the exhibit. Two collages titled “Pandemic 1” and “Pandemic 2” were created by Instructor of Art John Shanchuck and displayed on the wall to the right of the gallery door. Across the room hang digital inkjet prints, “Hamilton-Gibson Productions Poster Designs”, designed by Associate Professor of Graphic Design Michelle Lockwood. These prints are presented alongside work from the design process on the wall beside the final versions.


The Faculty Show also includes written works such as “When Everything Beyond the Walls Is Wild: Being A Woman Outdoors In America” by Lilace Mellin Guignard (Instructor of Creative Writing, Outdoor Recreation Leadership, & Women's Studies) and “Pedaling the Sacrifice Zone: Teaching, Writing, and Living Above the Marcellus Shale” by Jimmy Guignard (Professor of English, Chair).


The exhibition pieces mentioned above are only a few of what this show has to offer. Students are welcome to view the Faculty Art Show from within the Loomis Gallery, located in Allen Hall. The gallery is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Students are asked to follow Mansfield University safety guidelines and wear a mask while inside Allen Hall and maintain a social distancing of 6 feet. from one another. Maximum occupancy of the Loomis Gallery currently is eight people.
